I have a 98 GT, I've heard different things about both cars. I've driven my friends 95 5.0 Cobra, its ok, but I like my car better. As far as mods, the 5.0 has a whole lot more mods to choose from. Since I've been talking to one of the Mustang shops near where I live, they tell me that 4.6 parts are coming out more and more frequent. One guy that was president of a mustang club in NC where I live told me that the 5.0 motor pushes out more HP, while the 4.6 motor pushes more torque. I'm not sure how accurate this is, but I love my car either way.

5.0's have more power overall, but the 4.6's put out more power per liter. Also a 5.0 wil be easier to mod. And if you get a stroker kit then you'll really see some good numbers. I have a 4.6 and they are not that easy to mod. Also a 5.0 will be less expensive to mod. I have to suspect though with the 05 out 4.6 items will drop lowly but surely. (2v items) Test drive both and see what one you like more.

I too love my 97 4.6, but if ou are stuck on the SN95 bodystyle, then get the 5.0. Otherwise, get a 99+ GT. the Difference between the 4.6's with and without the PI heads/cams/intake is worth the extra $$$. %.0's are cheaper to mod, Get yourself a new intake, fullexhaust and some new cams and you're set.

i thank everyone for their help. one thing i did hear is that the 5.0 runs into problems more frequently. does anyone know if this is true. if it is not it sounds like i should go with a 5.0 even though either one will be fun

I've heard that 5.0's are very strong motors and very reliable. They may be having more problems cause most 5.0 will have higher mileage these days. I believe both motors are pretty good

you could do what most people are doing, get a 96-98 GT, and do the PI swap to get the same power that you would from a 99+ GT. Oh you could just throw a supercharger on it. I'm considering doing both myself to hold me over until I can get my 2008 Cobra.
