255 will also fit ok, bigger than that is iffy.

He's absolutely right.

Your going to have a LOT of people come in here and say 275's will fit just fine, only bulging out from the rims a bit. Well, do your homework. Every single tire manufacturer lists that 255's are the max tire that will fit on an 8" rim width. Other tires will fit, but it's not recommended. Squeezing a wider tire on a too-narrow rim will alter the handling charachteristics of the vehicle a bit. Your essentially changing the flex point of the tire.

A larger tire WILL fit, and everyone will say they have been doing it for years and it's worked just fine. This may be the case, but your handling will be that much better with a tire designed to fit on the recommended rim width. If you want to go larger yet to a 275 or so, upgrade to a 9" wide rim.

Put 275/40/17's on the rear and 255/40/17's in the front. It will be a little wider in the front plus have a nicer looking low profile. And the 275/40/17 will keep your speedo exactly right, as well as they fit perfectly.

275/40/17. And the ET streets on the rear only, don't want them for the front

Pick up some BFG KDW's for the front.
