1996 Mustang GT idle changes when the AC is turned on
Hi. I have 1996 Mustang GT Convertible. Its a great car and we've never had any major issues with it. I have discovered since it is now summer in AZ that the AC only blows warm air. My husband was going to charge the AC and discovered that when he turns the AC on the idle starts to jump up and down from approx 1k to 1.5k and continuously does this while on normal AC or Max AC. the car idles fine as long as the AC is not on. I'm thinking maybe I need a new AC compressor? Any help would be appreciated.
Thanks,
Sydney

i was just helping my cousin with this exact problem its most definitely not your compressor. thats what we first thought but what we found that worked was by releasing freon from the system. what happens the pressure builds up in the lines and the system automatically turns the AC off. give it a try then if that doesn't work try the sensor on your plenum or the sensor on the AC condenser. but i can almost guarantee its the freon in the system.
