tansmission atf scent help
ok i changed my transmission fluid from syncromesh to mobil 1 atf and now when i shift at certaing rpms i get a scent of mobil 1 atf. i put the same amoount in as i did with the syncromesh. From what i can tell it is not leaking from anywhere. and does not seem to be burning on the transmission before it gets to ground. anyone have ideas of what it going on?

How much fluid did you use?

I asked if you had put it in through the shifter turret because if it didn't seal well that could be the source of the odour.
I had a similar issue after we did my clutch because when I reinstalled the shifter the gasket shifted and didn't seat properly--I had to take it apart and reset the gasket...

I don't know what friction modifier Synchromesh uses, however both RP and M1 use PAO (poly-alpha-olefin) and POE (polyol esters) as the friction modifier additive--they are the ones that have that distinctive smell.
The only way the odour can escape, barring bad seal(s), would be through the shifter turret--what shifter are you running, what condition are the boots (inner and outer) in?
I got a very slight hint of it once in a while right after I changed the fluid, and after we did the clutch, but I think that was because a bit of spillage. It disappeared after a couple hundred miles).
Is the odour strong or just noticeable?

If the boots do not fit tight or are torn the stink can come up through the shifter mechanism--if it doesn't go away and gets annoying I'd lift the shifter surround and inspect the boots.
One thing I know I wouldn't do is switch away from the M1, my transmission shifts smoother than it ever did with the RP Synchromax. Even that 1-2 "hitch" is barely noticeable...
