Default What should I look out for?

I'm very close to buying a 2001 mustang gt. I has 110000 miles on it which I think is very high for a 2001.
I'm wondering what errors/defects I should be looking for when checking out the car. (I have no skills when it comes to fixing cars)
The price tag is 8990.

Thanks

In this case, I would look for another car. That's a whole hell of alot of miles.

You should be looking for another car.

A car with 110,000 miles, will be needing several things. Engine rebuilds are typical after 100,000 miles. The transmission you most likely have, T45 is an extremely weak transmission and quite expensive to replace.

You might be buying a cheap car, but to get the car into good operating condition, in the end, you will spend as much....if not MORE than what a low mileage 01 GT would cost. You can get a low mileage 99-02 GT for under $12,000 now.

Yeah I would totally skip over that one and buy something that has a lot less miles on it, espically if you are not very good with working on your car yourself.

Thats not alot of miles.

Thats an insane amount of miles for an 01. 110,000 spells trouble.

I wonder if people think before they post.

I have a 2000 that now has 137,000 miles on it. To compare, I'd say it had damn close to the same amount of miles on it as that 01 when it was the same age. I changed my oil every 3-5k and 95% of those miles were done in 5th gear (stock) on the highway at 70 mph. I'd bet money that my car and engine are in better shape than many Mustangs with 1/2 the miles. I'll take 110,000 highway miles over 50,000 "beat the **** out of it" miles any day of the week. Here are the repairs done to my car: clutch at 95,000 (which I am convinced I didn't need, but was screwed by the dealership), brakes at 134,000 (pads only), alternator at 135,000 and that's it. At 133,000 I slapped a Vortech on it with a whole bunch of other goodies. I run my car hard when I take it out (at 10 psi). The engine hasn't blown up on me yet. Neither has the tranny and I've been slamming through the gears.

People freak when they see high miles like that, but you have to consider how it was driven. Again, I'd take my highway driven 130+k over a 50k "around towner". That's not to say that the car in question was driven and maintained like mine, but at least ask the question. I also kept all of my maintenance records so someone could see by the date and the mileage that the only way those miless could have been put on there is through highway driving.

I agree with biketybam.Talk to the owner and see if you can get them to incrimminate themselves.Bring up things you have read about on some of these forums but don't talk about things you don't understand.(you could be labeled as an easy victim)Ask about how it ran at the track, any mods, and gas mileage.See what kind of oil was used and whether it was changed regularly.Look closely for signs of deception!!!It sounds like it was never ran too hard or it would not be able to be sold in running condition.Run a Carfax on the car, they aren't perfect but I had a report steer me away from a Mustang that had three owners within one year. There are a lot of 'Stangs for sale so don't settle for something you might not want later.Good Luck.

I agree with u bickety, but the only problem is the seller isnt going to tell him that one time he forgot and went 15k miles without changing the oil, or he went to the strip every other week since it was new. If I knew the car was properly maintained like yours obviously is, then i would deduct money off the price according to a blue book and buy away.
