Talking Hey! 98 GT Grommet help plz

Hey, Do you have to drop the gas tank to replace the filler neck to gas tank grommet? Or is there some way to do it where you don't have to. I'm trying to save myself some time. Thanks again -Nick

On your year, NO. On mine,...I did. Let me find the thread, it gives you a full rundown on how to do it. You are basically taking the screws out of the fill tube area from inside the trunk and doing some twisting and tugging to get it loose. I;ll get the thread and post it shortly...

EDIT: here you go man...

Awesome man, thanks a bunch! I got the filler neck out and just gotta put everything back together now. Just one more question. Besides the smell of gas and it spilling on to the exhaust pipes, it there any other effects this could have on your car like fuel pressure or anything? Thanks - Nick

Well not fuel pressure, but poor fuel mileage for the obvious reasons, and I suppose it could possibly throw an EVAP code with a CEL, but other than that I dunno.

Just asking because I have a few problems I made another thread about. I just haven't had the money to fix them yet so I was hoping if I replaced the grommet my car would be showroom new..lol.. Its just a hesitation problem when your driving at a consistent speed it bucks. I cleaned the IAC and that made a difference in power and response. I need the clean the MAF next. But I'm guessing its going to be Coil packs/Wires/Plugs/Fuel Filter.

I have to replacemy grommet as well. Where did you buy yours Nick? I've come to the conclusion that only local ford dealers have them for sale- $30 here! And thanks for that thread devon, I havent bought the grommet cuz I thought I had to drop my fuel tank again. **** ripped when I replaced my fuel pump.

mine seemed like it would fall on its face for a second then go back to normal while cruising, cliffyk diagnosed it as being a bad egr valve, problem solved

info for that here https://mustangforums.com/forum/4-6l...ight-miss.html

Right here man sorry I haven't checked this thread in a while but yea it was easy just have to twist the filler neck the right way to get it out once all the bolts are out.
