Default Cobra-ish brake upgrade

After 67,000 miles, the pony needs new pads I'm told. My front rotors are warped and have been for a while. So, I decided to upgrade. After hours of searching today, here's what I've decided on:

EBC GD7021 Front ($205.60) http://www.autoanything.com/brakes/6...0A2654393.aspx

EBC GD7024 Rear ($170.48) http://www.autoanything.com/brakes/6...0A2654393.aspx

Russell SS lines 693270 ($134.95) http://www.streetsideauto.com/produc...YMM&Reset=True

The following from Late Model Restoration:

Ford M-2320-C Front ($329.99)

Ford M-2320-CR Rear ($199.99)

Ford M-2300-M Kit ($174.99)

Cobra Banjo Bolts W709290S901 (24.99)

The nicer rotors bump the price up, but with very little shipping and no tax (at least in GA) the total is $1255.98. I think if I opted to go with OEM rotors on the front, I could do it for just over $1000.

What do you guys think?

Well you don't need to upgrade to Cobra's in the rear not worth it. Just put new GT matching rotors in the rear along with new pads for the back.

You also don't need SS lines for Cobra brakes could save another $135 bucks, I did mine with stock GT lines and it is a huge difference from stock.

Yeah man, I considered all of that, but what the hell. The rear brakes are only 25% of the equation, but I tend to over engineer everything. The lines are just a precaution. I would have replaced the originals anyway, so why not go with SS. Besides, should I decided to upgrade the master cylinder (some say it's necessary - most say it isn't) I would expect in increase in pressure.

It's all good 'insurance' and should look good too. Once everything is delivered, I may post something up about the quality of the EBC rotors or maybe the install if anyone would like. Not sure if we have the brake install in the How To section.

Once this is all done, I'll start saving for the next upgrade. Suspension or gears. Not yet decided.

The cobra rears help balance the fronts no doubt... For my cobra spec brake upgrade I paid only 375 front and rear.

New bullitt calipers from buyfordracing - $209
Used blank 13" rotors - $62
Used rear Mach 1 calipers, brackets, rotors, moan braces - $75
New rear pads - ~$25

Obviously I found some good deals, but I just wanted to show you that you can do this upgrade for fairly cheap if you shop around... I love my brakes, but no way would I have paid over a grand for them...

They are worth 500 bucks if you ask me though...

I also didn't upgrade the lines and I have never looked back. If you just daily drive with occassional spirited driving, save your money on the lines

The parts are already ordered. I'm squeamish about buying anything 'used' for my car. I could have gone much cheaper by using stock Cobra rotors and factory lines. Hell, I could have kept the stock rears for that matter. I was cash strapped for the first six years I owned the car and now I can afford to play a little, so i went a little over board. At least it will look nice, lol. And I should be able to stop in a hurry.

BTW, I followed the link to the calipers on buyfordracing. The price is no longer $209. $249 with get you the red fronts. I don't think it would look good on a blue car. It's $339 for black cobra fronts. Late model resto was cheaper on the black Cobra fronts. I had to order from three stores, but it saved me over $150 on the same parts. Not cheap for sure, but it is about the best I can do without going Wilwood, Baer, etc. and much cheaper than any of them would be just for the fronts.

Yeah. I ordered the calipers for 209 on a friday or something and the next monday they went up to 249! I got really lucky. But $249 + a can of spray paint and you have black calipers!

You're going to love them. It will be night and day. No more sponginess of the pedal and the stopping power is right there...Enjoy em'

Man, I'm usually not big on metalic reds, but yours looks fantastic. Is that the factory color? Maybe it's the light or even the wheels, idk. Nice looking ride for sure.

Yup, factory color. Laser Red (E9)

Thanks man. It's brighter in the sun. The pic your seeing was from a cloudy day. Most people either love it or hate it.

I know alot of people say the rears aren't worth it but I did the rears and have yet to do the fronts (froze a rear caliper and wanted to upgrade instead of just replace). I found that even though the rears are about 25% of your braking power that the rear did help out noticably. compared to stock. Beside I think you can never have too much braking power.

25% is a lot! What is the brake bias on the GT, anyway? I eventually plan to upgrade my brakes, but I've never had a problem bringing mine to a halt, either.

My pads actually just wore out also, and at about the same mileage as yours (73,000). People look at the odometer and wonder if I ever drive the thing.
