Default Fuel Filter Replacement

I have a 98 GT and I was trying to replace my fuel filter yesterday. I relieved the fuel system pressure and went under the car to remove the old filter. For the life of me I could get the filter disconnected from the hoses. The clips popped loose with no trouble. I have a Haynes manual and the picture shown of the fuel filter and connections doesn't look quite like my setup. Thelines coming out of themy filter connect into coupler that on the filter side is roughly 1/2" and that narrows down to about 1/4" on the other. I tried disconnecting from both sides of the coupler, but nothing budged.

Am I missing something silly? Any advise would be appreciated.

Default Fuel Filter Replacement

I have been hunting around the internet and found a site that detailed the process. It seems as if I need a special tool to disconnect the filter from the fuel lines. Does this sound right?

Default Fuel Filter Replacement

I've never seen a Ford fuel filter but on my old Camaro the fuel filter had left & right threads on the filter...made it pretty confusing to get it off lol.
