2003 GT Transmission questions...
Hi, i'm new to the site, and I'd like to thank you in advance for your time.
Just bought an 03' GT that a friend had driven before me, so I know he took care of it. He's a trustworthy guy, and said it was in great shape. The reason I know he was telling me the truth is because he traded it in, and I got it from the same dealership just a few days after, so his transaction was complete and he had no reason to BS me.
Either way I'm curious about the transmission shifting hard and making those clanking/grinding noises once every 10 shifts or so, especially in the lower gears like 1st and ESPECIALLY into 2nd. To keep it simple, for example, when I shift into second at times (not every time) I get that little clank, rough shift noise and occasionally into third.
Also, at times when I push in the clutch at rest or while I'm in 1st I'll get that same type of rough grind noise.
Now this friend of mine said it's always shifted roughly in those gears through the 85,000 miles he put on it, and my mechanic, who has always seemed to know his stuff said it's "not a problem" and is very common with Mustangs from 03 and the surrounding years. He said Ford "knew about" the problem with the rough shifting, but that once again it's no big deal.
I guess my question is, what do you guys think? I'm sure the members of this site are very knowledgeable and could put my mind at ease. Am I in store for transmission/clutch issues in the near future? Have you heard of the transmission issues from that era?

Change the transmission fluid, use 3.2qts (per this TSB) of Mobil 1 ATF (my current recommendation)...
