Default What year IRS is in my 02 GT???

I just purchased a 2002 mustang gt on wednesday and it has the Cobra IRS in it. However, I dont know if its the 99-01 or the 03-04 cobra IRS. I couldnt find any markings on it to tell me which year it is. I want to get lowering springs but I need to know what year the IRS is out of. Any ideas or suggestions?? Might have to take it to a shop and get it checked. Thanks for any help!

03-04 had stiffer front springs for the 100+ pound heavier motor but I think the rears are the same.

Take a pic of the half shafts. The 2003-2004 Cobra had Larger half shafts then the 99 or 2001.

The 1999 was 28 spline and the 2001 and 03-04 had 31 spline if you want to pull one and count...

Other than that I really don't know.

As for the lowering springs I think any of them will sit in either IRS

jack the car up and spin the axle, count the revolutions and you should be able to tell which ones. 03/04's have a steeper gear than the 99-01, without seeing what an 03/04 halfshaft looks like it's hard to tell ya the diff between them so it's gonna be hard for you to tell by looking at just the halfshafts.

Main visual difference is the cross brace for the 03/04 irs.

any spring for an IRS will work. And for the gear idea your assuming someone kept the stock gears in. The easiest way is to look at the half shafts for the Ford part # sticker it will look something like this AA-ooooo-bb put that # in google and you should get an idea what year your half shafts are

OP, like said above any spring for the irs setup will be ok. What you could do is look for the part number on it from Ford or the tag on yur diff housing and use that to call Ford and get yur answer that way!!
BraMas I love yur Sig bro!! It is soooo lame putting a pic of yur sold car in yur sig. Just my opinion though.!

Thanks for the help everybody. I was told that the 99-01 and 03/04 springs were not the same and wouldnt be able to coincide. Most sites sell either just one or the other. But none of the sites say that the99-01 and 03/04 kits are the same. I could be wrong but thats just what ive seen. It would be nice if that is true. I havent found any markings on the diff or anything so I might just take it to a shop and have them look at it. Thanks again!

Bro I have had 2 of these IRS and have 3 sets of springs for them. Its the fronts that are different I am pretty sure. IMHO you need the 99-01 springs as that motor is pretty close to the weight of a stock iron block GT motor. The 03-04 motor is a good 120lbs heavier at least.
