emissions test MD
i have to pass an emissions test in Anne Arundel County MD. i have an 04 gt with bassani x pipe with high flow cats on. i had them for 2 yrs now and its that time to see the emissions test. my problem is my car is throwing the p0420/p0430 codes. i know they won't pass you with those on and i know you can't just delete them (which i have been doing just to make that annoying light go away for awhile). what can i do so i can pass emissions? i dont have a tuner, just a code reader. im trying to avoid putting on the old cats lol.

Thing is that there's no such thing as "hi-flow" cats, just cats that are smaller than they should be for the engine in question--smaller = less core (substrate) = less restriction.
Unfortunately less core also = less efficiency, which is often too little to make the PCM happy after only a short time if service.
Here's my DIY MIL Eliminator page...

I've had the MagnaFlow catted x-pipe for three years and have never thrown a code. I do not have mil eliminators, only extensions. I didn't get an emissions test in AA county when I was there, so no idea if they would have passed.
I'm thinking that mil eliminators will not help you pass emissions if AA uses a sniffer (most places seem to). The mils only fool your ECM.

It all depends on the method and condition of the test equipment, and attitude and training of the operator. The whole process has become institutionalized in the places that do the testing and like any long-standing government bureaucracy its systems are all in various stages of decay.
Florida, in an uncharacteristically sane move for government, recognised this and that 99.44% of cars passed or were exempt because they were new(ish), nearly 20 years ago and abandoned the whole silly thing.
