Default Cobra Transmission in my GT?

alright, so i pulled the transmission out of my newly aquired 96' GT...or should i say it fell out....in 1/3's. anyway, i was looking on ebay for a used t45 and found a 98 cobra trans. is there any difference in the two? they're both t45's from what i understand.

pics of the aftermath (bellhousing is still on the car...kind of.

I just put a T45 out of a 98 Cobra in my 96GT and yes there is a difference. Where the transmission mount is bolted to the transmission. Here is the easiest way to explain it. Go stand over your transmission looking down at where you bolt the shifter on. Look past the 2 bolt holes for the shifter that would be closer to the engine and you will see where the transmission mount would bolt up to the transmission. But on the 98 Cobra T45 the transmisson mount bolts directly underneith the back 2 shifter holes or closer to the tail shaft. Sorry if this doesnt make any since. It does to me because I lived it.

So in other words you have to make a bracket that goes from your crossmember to your trans mount. This is what I did and it works fine. or you have to have the crossmember moved back a few inches which will require welding.

He is right bout the tranny mounts being different. There was an article in the August '05 MM&FF's bout rebuilding the T-45 and that was a difference they pointed out. Tranny mount on the Cobra is more toward the driveshaft and the GT is a few inches further toward the engine.
