Default V1 is installed!! Can I drive to tuner?

Well my vortech is finally installed, now I have to get it tuned. It starts and idles fine but it runs like **** and backfires occasionally. No pinging as it is running very rich. I have to drive about an hour and a half to get to the tuner in CT. How risky is that if I keep my foot out of it, and grandpa it the whole way. May have to do some highway, 55 max.

I wouldn't chance it. Just rent a trailer. You have to ask yourself, is it really worth blowing your motor on the way there because you wanted to save some money and not trailer it?

If you've got a handheld tuner then I'd call the place you are gonna have tune your car and see if they will email you a baseline file that will correct for the larger injectors and different maf. When I was ready to fire up my new motor I called injected engineering and they emailed me a baseline startup file for half the final tuning labor, which I thought was cool. I'd see if whoever you want to tune your car will hook you up the same way. I wouldn't drive it that far on the tune you had before.

This is exactly what I will be doing next week. The car is suppose to be fixed Friday (finally) and I will have to drive it to the nearest dyno shop (2 hrs away). The performance shop that is doing the tune sent me two base line tunes, so that I could make it down there. Like you I will be running between 55-65 the whole way (man it's gonna be hard)...Hopefuly I want have any issues, we'll see. Good luck to you man...

Thanks guys, good advice all. I'll call and see about a base tune, if not, then a flatbed I guess.

Where are you bringing it in CT?

And yes, I would flatbed it.

if aything you gotta at LEAST tune for the injectors. I wouldnt chance it though, that is a pretty long drive and plenty of opportunity for something to go wrong.

Yeah, I would get it tuned. Its better to pay $150 to get it towed than to pay a few grand for a new engine.

No it didnt have a tune, I even called vortech, they dont tune for that year.

ct_white_stang, I was going to go to The Shop in Norwich, but they dont have sct software, now I may go to Janelly's, they can do a base tune for me and then dyno, but they get $180 an hour for tuning, ouch. Any other places you can think of
