Default How do I change the door pin bushings?

Hello,

The driver door on my 98 GT is sagging. You have to pick up on the door to close it. I am going to go buy later today the upper and lower pins for the door. How in the world do you change these? Can anyone point me to a diy guide or explain?

Thanks!

I dont know of any guides, but basically its gonne be a PIA. i did both sides on my car and they sucked. you will have to somehow get the old pins off, i did it with the doors off the car and grinded through pins and popped them out. Then had to cut the new pins shorter so they would actually fit into the holes because they were too long. Thats really about it. You can then loosen the door hinge bolts and play with them to get it to line up properly. but look at spending a day doing this. its a bitch

Yup, the pins are an upset fitted, as are rivets, into the hinge assembly; so the upset (at the bottom as mounted) needs to be ground off before the pins can be removed.

You will need new pins, that will need to be similarly upset to gold them in--or held in some other way.

One way is to cross drill them and use a small cotter pin, or if they are not badly worn and reusable you can drill and tap the ground end and use a button head cap screw and washer.
