time to rebuild the car

well did a comp test on the car to see if i could find out why its low on power and i found it. #1 100 #2 80 #3 95 #4 175 #5 150 #6 145 #7 90 #8 100. So i know i need to rebuild the motor or atlest rering and hone it but here is my issue. i want to turbo it anyways but i was thinking just a stock bottem end but now that i found this out im starting to think. if i got it apart i need to build it alittle stronger. so here is where im at if i build the motor i would want around 650-700hp where was on the idea for a stock bottem and turbo i was just wanting around 450. so my ? is if im doing a buget build can i run forged rods and piston with a stock crank and stock block with new bearings and have a reliable 650hp or so track car? im also thinking if i got it apart i would send the cams to like colt for some turbo regrinds and maybe pickup a set of better flowing heads or atlest port mine id like to keep the motor rebuild under 2000-2500 or so but i also want a car i can drag every weekend without to much though of the motor going

Im gonna tell you right now $2500 for a built motor MINUS any kind of turbo/supercharger is not realistic at all. MMR was selling shortblocks rated at 600hp for $2000 on sale recently... but thats $2000 with stock everything else.

If you want 650-700 hp you're gonna spend thousands and thousands on your car, not trying to be a dick here but i feel like you're just talking with no grasp on how much things actually cost.

You can find forged pistons and Rods for a little over a grand... I would go ahead and buy a new crank... You're probably at $1500 on a bottom end ATLEAST.

A port or new heads would set you back another few hundred probably more (if you went with new heads), Cams would set you back $600, valvesprings another $200, you're not seeing 650 with stock valvetrain, oversized valves/ angle job etc etc you're gonna have more than $2000 wrapped up in your heads alone in a 650hp car.

and then theres the rest of the car... a FUEL system $300+ 60# injectors, New fuel pump(s) a bigger MAF

A transmission that won't blow to pieces with that much power $1300-$2000, a built rear $800-$1400, yes these are musts if you wanna go to the track and not break your car.

i understand im fine with 1500-2000 in the bottem end so i can atlest get the car running with stock heads and cams for under 2500 ill be happy i know there is more mods on top of the bottem end but thats all i really care about right. also maybe 650hp is alittle more then i need just a guess i want a low 10 to a high 9 car so though that was in the ball park for a gutted track car with matching mods.

If you want that power itll take roughly 5k minimum but i can be done

lx91red5.0HO 10-26-2010 09:21 PM

well i have more of a time goal then a hp goal so guess i should ask how much power will it take to push a mustang to low 10s with a 10.5 slicks and upgraded suspension

Your not gonna build the motor to handle 700hp for under $2500. Trust me I know.

Based on the budgit you are trying to work with you're better bet would be to just buy a car already built. If you plan on making a 600rwp+ car and want to run low 10s $2500 will not cut it on a bottom end. You will also need alot more money for the rest of the drivetrain, a realiable trans for that kinds setup will probably run 2300$ish, you'll also need a built rear. Pretty much all you have to start with is a chasis.

i want a strong bottem end for around 2000-2500 i know the whole motor build will be more but i can run stock heads for now just to have the car at the track on a low boost tune. i not asking about how to get the car to hold the power just want to know how to build the bottem end
