a big one.

you either have to drop the k member (easiest way) or you can try to unbolt the motor and jack it up. some people are able to jack the motor and tilt it side to side but in the end they say it would have been easier to drop the k member.

Also keep in mind that one or both will have to be removed to pull the transmission should it or the clutch need repair...

There are headers out there that will allow you to drop the trans with the LTs still installed.

To the OP, the install will take a while. I found that dropping the K member was the easiest way and least frustrating way of installing LTs. What does this entail? Well dropping the whole front suspension. I just drop it about 6-8" and hold it up with jacks. Makes for a much easier re-installation.

i installed mine without dropping the k. had the car only 16 inches above the ground just for the long tubes to slide up to the heads. had to remove the starter, steering shaft and driver side motor mount bolt. took me 2 days but total of 8 hours. it only took basic hand tools but shorty wrenches would have worked in my favor had i had some at that time.

Most people make the install sound worse then it really is. I have installed them many times and it only take about 3 hours to do while on jack stands. About 2 and a half on a lift. Drop the K it will make it much easier and faster.

Aren't the Bassani mid-lengths the only thing close to longtubes you can get where you can take out the trans without removing the headers?

And just outta curiousity, if you drop the K member, what do you use to hold the motor up? Do you just use a jack under the oil pan or something?

Yes indeed dropping the k member is the easiest way to install longtube headers.

I pulled my trans out with MAC longtubes still on.

Support the engine with a block of wood and a jack on the oil pan or brace up top.
