Default maybe a dumb quesion

ill ask it anyway. what factors determine engine compression? like how do i make a higher or lower compression engine? ive looked all over and cant seem to find a straight answer

the piston compresses the air in the combustion chamber. say you have a comp. ratio of 10:1. that means your compressing the air/gas mix 10 times small than what it was outside the motor. a shorter/ dished ( like a bowl) wont compress it as much..thus resulting in lower power but is great for boost because your not putting as much stress on the motor. other ways to change it could be rod length, shaved heads, shaved the block, porting the combustion chamber and prob more stuff idk about. same goes for raising compression too, long rods etc

Head gasket thinkness can actually affect compression ratio as well.
