Fuel system problems/switching to return style because my life sucks
#11
it was about half and hour or more of trying to start then getting out of the car to try and figure it out.
I put them in at work and even after the car started nobody had a clue what the problem was. The only suggestion one mechanic said was that all the pressure in the system needed to be restored (possibly from cranking the car over multiple times?).
I don't know if starting fluid is a good idea but maybe the use of that to get the car running will pressurize everything to deliver fuel?

Well none of that matters if the pumps aren't priming LOL. If you can indeed hear them then keep trying to prime them and check the the fuel rails for pressure. Maybe it will take a bit to fully pressurize the system back up.

It really is easy to hear if the pumps are kicking on once you turn the key to one position before starting the car.

Pumps aren't priming, FML. I hear a little click but I don't think thats the pumps. My gas gauge isn't work either which points to the wiring fix I did being inadequate. I choes to solder them. I know cliff is a fan of dielectric grease and crimp fittings but I didn't have grease handy and just wanted to get it done so I went the solder route. They all appeared to be solid connections so I don't get it..

Hmmm. Can you get a new harness? I don't know what you are dealing with in terms of how much slack you have to play with. But since the fuel gauge isn't working then i would also point toward the wiring job you did as well.
Maybe next time twist the wires together and give it a test, turn the key over to see if they prime and the gauge works. Or maybe drop the tank and have someone move the wires around one at a time to see if you are not having a good connection. Maybe you can narrow it down there. But I would figure there is a select few that go from the pump to the gauge and whatever colors they are, but if the pump isn't priming then seems you have faulty connections TO (not priming) and FROM (no gauge) the pumps...
