Default Any additional considerations when upgrading fuel pump?

So I dropped my fuel tank to drill holes for a battery relocation. I ended up cleaning the thing, pulled the two valves out, royally destroyed the big one everyone has trouble with and I'm wondering if I should put in a bigger fuel pump while it's out. The car is currently stock, but I have a 2.8L Kenne Bell I plan on slapping on eventually and I don't think a Boost-A-Pump alone will do the trick. But between now and when I finally get around to putting the KB on (2.8L Twin Screw is going to require a forged bottom end I know) I would like to drive it around in the People's Republic of California. That means I need to pass SMOG tests. Outright, I know installing anything that does not have a CARB EO#, including devices that could reduce the exhaust pollution, is illegal. But they're not going to check to see if my fuel pump is stock. So my question is, do I need a special tune to handle the additional power from an upgraded pump or anything else that WOULD be noticeable from an examination? Is there any downside to running a larger pump if I don't need it right now? It's easy enough to swap out when the time comes and I take the car "off-road" but I might as well do it now if there is no negatives.

Adding a fuel pump doesn't change the computers programming. If its requesting the stock amount of fuel it still will give it. Get a tune with a bigger pump will allow more fuel due to the biggge pump. Yes 👍 you can drop in a fuel I ump no issues at all. Here is one

Awesome! Thanks for the reply AND the recommendation. Just to make sure, you think that pump with a Boost-A-Pump will be good to 500-600 engine HP? I eventually will need to feed that monstrous 2.8L KB blower.

Id go with an aeromotive stealth 340 in tank pump over a 255 and BAP if you plan on making that much power

thats the pump i installed in my factory fuel pump hat and make ~500hp without a BAP

also if you decide to run that 340 very carefully use a small hole-saw bit and drill holes in the basket towards the bottom. heavy flow pumps can potentially suck the basket dry on long pulls. I did mine similar to this picture. the only downside is at roughly 1/4 tank of gas or less you cant beat on it, the fuel will slosh away from pump
