Default Upgrading my speakers (mach 460)

I have a mach 460 system, i got an aftermarket head unit though since my CD player jammed. I now have a pioneer 5200hd head unit. My speakers suck though since they are stock and pretty much blown. I heard its almost impossible or not worth it to upgrade the 460 system though. What would i need to buy and put in place of the mach 460 speakers and amp have an actually decent system? Is a good sounding system possible for like 250$-300$ since i allready have a different head unit? Any tips or suggestions on speaker or amp replacement would be appreciated.

Impossible? Hardly.

Buy some speakers and an amp or two. Take it all to cartoys and let them tear your interior apart and get their warranty.

a good system without a sub can be had for a price about that range. adding in a decent sub will likely go over that though. just bypass the whole mach system and run RCA's from your head unit to the amp, them wire the speakers from the amp with speaker wire. there's plenty of guides out there on how to install basic speaker systems.

as for recommendations, i'd go around to various stores and check out different speaker/amp combo's. what one person likes another may not, based on their music tastes, so your best off finding what you like best.

I replaced my entire Mach 460 system a year ago, it was a pain but such an improvement over the stock "Premium" system..

I got a set of Polk components, 5 1/4in for the front, a set of Polk 2 way 4x6in for the rear deck, a Kenwood Receiver, Kenwood 70wx4 amp, Kenwood 300wx1 amp and a 10in Boston Acoustics sub..This set up wasn't cheap but sounds amazing.

I would check out Crutchfield, that's where I got most of my stuff, or used that site to research, read reviews then brought certain items off Ebay.

You have to decide if you want to use the stock speakers, which i would replace, because the are made from cardboard, and the amp become worthless so remove them.

You could pick up speakers from about $200(you want components for the front, because they come with tweeters for the pillar, and the rears just need to be a cheaper filler speaker), then find an amp for $150, the wiring kit set me back about $100 bucks, but I Craigslisted my old gear for $100, there's always another Mustang owner out there who's willing to buy that stuff
