Default What do these numbers mean?

Ok. For starters I'm a complete SCRUB when it comes to trannys. I know as much about them as a elephant knows about hernia. I was looking at a T-56 tranny. The gear numbers are Gear
Ratio
1st
2.66

2nd
1.78

3rd
1.30

4th
1.00

5th
0.80

6th
0.63

Reverse
2.90

Final Drive
3.55

What do these numbers mean? Compared to my stock 3650 what are the pros/cons?

it basically gives you a gear between 4th and 6th, as in the 3650 forth is 1.00 and fifth is 0.63, so the 6 speed puts another gear between them.

How does a gear in between benefit me?

its not just an added gear.... and no the ratio for 5th is not the same as that other tranny.

this is the ratios on the 3650:

1 - 3.38
2 - 2.00
3 - 1.32
4 - 1.00
5 - 0.68

the ratios work similar to changing the gears in your rear end. now take first gear for example. with the 3650 being higher (3.38 vs 2.66) you will get better acceleration, but your gear will run out faster (same thing when you go from stock gears to 3:73's). so you will accelerate slower with the new tranny, but you will stay in each gear longer. you can get a little better gas mileage with lower ratios (for the same reason you lose gas mileage when you put 3:73's or whatever in your car) since your cruising RPM and such will stay lower.

read the t56 swap jazzer did he explains some of the other stuff:

If this is true than why give the cobras a tranny that makes them slower when they can put the stock GT's tranny in and make them faster?

the 3650 is only rated for 360 torque from tremec. there is no way ford is going to put in a transmission that is not rated for the torque of their car in stock form (390 is the rating, but the cobra numbers are all lowballed, and ford is obviously going to leave some room for pulley's and boltons as well). thats the main reason.

higher isnt always better either, nor does it automatically make you faster. you dont want to be hitting your overdrive gear halfway down the track and "run out of steam" shall we say.

Keep in mind the methods of induction used as well. You're running a centri blown car. You want to get your RPMs up to get into boost faster and in your powerband. Higher rear end gears and a more aggressive first gear will help you. It also will help an NA car as the GT's come stock. The roots and twin screw type blowers like the termis are equipped with make boost pretty quick, and you end up with a lot of low end and midrange torque. The longer first gear in the T56 should make that power more manageable.

Cobra's came with 3.55's in the rear compared to GT's with the stock 3.27's.
1st gear is a bit more "usable" for launch too, its longer, almost like launching in 2nd gear with a GT. this would be the reason i would get a T56, since my first gear with 3.73's is freakin useless, especially with boost.
i dont think any cobra guy with a t56 is gunna swap to a 3650. thats a downgrade. it *might* make the acceleration different, but you could just step the rear gears up to 3.73's. but keep in mind, doing either, kills your top end MPH, so in essence you accel faster, but have less top speed.

What kind of mpg increase could I expect city/highway from putting in this tranny?
