WHAT!!!!! A rattling in the engine could be a floated valve. Damn me for not knowing my engine inside and out. I had rattling in the engine and the mechanic told me that I threw my number one rod. I paid 2200 for a new engine and install!!!! That would have been a blower!!!! Please tell me that I didn't buy the Brooklyn Bridge????!!!

Replacing the motor seems to be the common fix these days...

An internal rattling can be anything: cam chain/guide, floating valve, sticking valve, etc.

HAHAHAHAHHAHA my friends s-10 had a check engine light and the person he brought it to said his transmission was slipping and he needed a new one. Well he brought his truck over to my house and I plugged in my OBD2 scanner and what do you know.... Good old o2 sensor getting dirty..needless to say he hasnt gone back to that guy and the tranny still runs fine. You gotta be careful with some of those car mechanics. Not saying they are trying to screw you over but sometimes they just dont know whats wrong and an easy way to fix that is to replace everything and make you pay for it.
