Default Engine Break-in Oil???

About to put my engine back in my Mustang. Is there any special oil or oil type I should use for the breaking in of it? Like the other day I saw some Royal Purple Break-in oil. Good? I've also been told to use 5w30 non synthetic oil just to break-in and then use synthetic. And I've also heard to just use 5w30 synthetic. Any suggestions? Thanks

And what were some of your guys methods of breaking in your engines when reinstalled?

Use Dino oil,5w30 is fine and cycle the engine thru the entire rpm range. Take it up to about 4500 rpm and run it for a bit, then down to 3000 then 2200 and so on. Do not run at steady rpm for too long. It has to cycle thru the powerband to properly seat everything. Do it for about 500 miles. Short trips at first to heat cycle everything. You are gonna notice some oil consumption but this is normal til it's broken in. Change oil out after about 5 or 6 hundred miles to remove any metal particles and change filter. Then Dino oil again to 1500 then add AMSOIL for a long life

And 5w30 is a great oil. Ignore that 5w20 propaganda. Pm unleashedbeast. He is resident oil expert and would have more knowledge than I. Happy driving

The book has a breakin method but i'd like to hear someother methods. thanks

I used the regular auto zone oil on my shortblock and it has worked out great. Any regular oil will work until all that metal cycles out and u can switch to synthetic.

Anything that you can get cheap, and get it and the filter out after a few minutes. Depending on what type of machine work was done, the rings will be seated within a couple heat cycles.

Good luck!
