Default OD band damage with gears?

Hey guys, so I've been looking into gears. I know for the automatic people say go with 4.10's. But I read something earlier that said something about gears, especially 4.10's, would damage your transmission mainly the OD band. Is there any truth to this? I can't really see how because I never go full throttle into OD and I dont do any 4th to 1st kicks or 4th to second kicks, I always gear down manually if I ever kick it from a roll.

Also how much will it affect gas mileage? I've heard that it might actually increase city mpg, but how much will it hurt highway mpg?

Any other info about getting the 4.10's would be greatly appreciated as I am a "noob" as far as stuff like this goes.

i dont see how 4.10s can damage your od because theres no relation between the two. the only affect to od that the 4.10s can produce is a lower mph ingagement.
