Default Starting Upgrades on ’99

My GT is all stock except a Steeda Tri-Ax shifter and a chip put in by the original owner. I'm wanting to upgrade to get a bit more power out of it and also a few things for aesthetics. If anyone has ideas on reasonable-cost upgrades that would be worth the buck, please post them here. And if anyone has opinions on superchargers vs. NOS, any thoughts would help.

Also, on a different note, a friend and I are at a disagreement on the steet-legality of ground neons. If anyone knows laws about these in Texas, lemme know.

All I got to say is gears, subframes, and exhaust.

Please don't put neons on your car. I laugh at people with those on.

As far as the exhaust goes, I've pretty much narrowed it down to Bassani or Mac. Not sure which to go with though. I was planning on just a cat-back set-up. Any opinions on this?

On the gears, i'm pretty much clueless on gear upgrades. If anyone has info on how it works, who to buy from, and how to go about getting it installed, please post it.

As far as subframe<img border="0" src= smileys/smiley5.gif>, i've never heard the term before. A brief explanation would be appreciated.

Thanks in advance for any info.

Well, I had MAC exhaust on my '91 GT, those ****** are loud, especially if you're running any type of Off road pipe (no cats). I don't know about the bassani's.

For your car, I would get 3.55 or 3.73 gears, as I've heard Modular motors really respond, but then again, so does my pushrod 5.0.

Subframes are a must for any Stang. Mustangs are uni-body, which means the chassis is not all one piece. If you were to look under your car, under the doors, you would see that the frame isn't connected (front and back). Subframes are welded on to either side to make the frame one piece. Basically, whenever you launch on a unibody, you'll notice how one side of the car (usually drivers side) will pick up, this is totally tweaking the body and frame because the chassis is twisting. Put subframes on and this will decrease the amount of twisting, will let you launch harder, and will also make the car handle better in curves.

Listen to 91 GT. Subframes are a MUST. Exhaust is cool because it just aint a mustang if it's not loud. As for gears, go with the 3:73's. Nothing will make you happier.

Note to self: neons out of the question ^_^

As far as subframes go, what kind of cost range am i looking at on them and does anyone know of a good place to get them from/have them installed in or near Central Texas?

On the exhaust note, I want something deep, but not something thats gonna pop people's ear drums. After all, my top is cloth and i don't wanna hate my exhaust after 2 months.

One last thing, a friend mentioned getting new headers. I looked into it and from what i can tell there's 2 main types, shorty and long. How will they each affect/fit in the engine?

Thanks again for the info guys.

I got my subframes for $40 off of Ebay (CGS Chassis) The price is cheap, but they work damn good. Had them installed at the metal shop of my old HS. There's a hill with a windy road right behind the school on the way to my house. It was so much more fun, the car felt so much more stable going down it.

Exhaust isn't going to get TOO loud until you take the cats off. That's when it sounds f'n awesome. I love it.

Unequal length shorties give you more low end, equal length shorties give you more top end, long tubes give you power all around, but are not smog legal, a b**** to install, and may give you clearance problems on a lowered car. Plus you have to get a special H/X-pipe, while the shorties can use the stock H-pipe.
