OD giving out?
This has been happening for a couple months now but isn't all that serious so I havent paid too much concern but since I was thinking about it because of the other 4R70W threads i'll make the post.
When I start my car bone cold on a chilly day overdrive will run about 300RPMS higher than it should until my trans warms up a decent amount. Depending on how long I let it idle to warm up it takes 1-3 miles of driving before overdrive finally drops down to the right RPM. Is my overdrive band going out or is it more?
I also have the low RPM(below 1500) vibration/power loss issue and thats been there since 50k miles when I bought it but it doesnt really seem to get worse, just anoying.

My guess is that you guys are confusing the lock-up of your converter with a gear shift. If you leave the car in D with the OD on and drive it when it is ***** cold, you wont go into OD for a while, but it will kind of sound like it has. It is because your trans isn't actually able to shift into OD until it reaches a certain operating temperature. What sounds like you are shifting into OD the first time is probably the sound/feel of the converter locking in 3rd. It sounds very similar to a shift, but it is not. Then once your car reaches this preset temp, the car goes from a locked 3rd to a locked 4th/OD and you see the rpm drop to where you are used to seeing it.

When you are driving in D, your shifts kinda go like this:
1st, 2nd, 3rd, converter locks, 4th (stays locked)
It almost sounds like a 5-speed when you drive it because you will hear/see an rpm drop at each of these points.

Tbird to the rescue! Haha. Good news cuz I found it really odd that it would do that but I stomp it on the highway and it never slips, never overheats or never acts up on me. Your description sounds just right.

Yeah, this isn't the only car that happens to. Most automatic transmissions will not shift into OD until they are at a certain temp. And probably the reason you have been noticing it for the last few months is that it has been hella cold. Little California for ya
