adding subs to stock mach 460
#3
I would strongly recommend an actual monoblock sub amp, those subs will need much more power than the stock amps provide, and hooking them in to the stock amps will change your ohm load on the amps potentially smoking them, and than you have no radio at all. with the aftermarket head unit, you should wire them up like in a normal car... or you can use the power, ground, and remote turn on wires and daisy chain from ONE of the factory amps, to your new one. I haven't looked into the wiring of the mach much yet, but when i do my stereo build you all will see. sense you will have to run new RCAS down the car you might as well upgrade your wiring with atleast 8 GA.... so new wiring, and sub amp, will give you the cleanest sound, and is the "right way" to do it... and for Amps I would look at something about 1000 watts RMS, at whatever ohms you will have your subs wired to. Are they the 4 or 2 ohm version? Remember with two subs, when you wire them up, it will cut your ohms in half... or double them dependin how you wire them. But in my opinion, thats how I would do it... do right, do it once.

I would recommend to just start from the ground up, don't even attempt to use the stock equipment with a sub. Like the previous poster said, you could damage your sub and it would be guaranteed that you would not get anywhere near the performance your sub is capable of.

You cannot use your factory amps for anything else than the type of speaker thats already in your car. I don't think that it will hurt your subs but it will definitely fry the amp. I used this write up to put my subs in my 2000 gt http://www.mustangworld.com/ourpics/fcar/despeeds1.htm. I kept my factory head unit though, i think it sounds decent for a stocker. The only reason that i kept the factory is that i have had the stereo stolen in all three of the other cars ive owned, i finally just got sick of it! They sell a wire harness that adapts the mach 460 to an aftermarket head unit If you insist on adding a new one. In that case the new aftermarket head unit should have RCA outputs to hook up the subs just like any other car. Unfortunately you will have to buy an amplifier, there is simply no way around it. There are tons of choices, its all about what your goal is and what ya wanna spend on it. Good luck
