Default Cowl vs. Ram air; which is better?

I own a 97 convertible Gt and want to know if anyone has delt with induction hoods. I like the cowl hoods from the cobra R. But ram air sounds more beneficial.

My point in getting a hood is to cool down the engine bay from all the ambient hot air the engine produces.

i have a 3" cowl hood and it gets the hot air out very good in my opinion. kEeps the cooler air circulating through the engine bay.. When stopped at a red light I see the heat waves coming from the cowl...pretty kool.. I say COWL cause Ram air will help cooler air get in but then its trapped...and just heat up ...

Nice explanation. Now I was doing some more reading and what's the debate of "sealed" vs. "non-sealed" cowl's?

Sealed is pointless. You are only adding height to your hood. You need the vents in the rear to allow trapped hot air to vent out properly.

In reality, your best venting hood with be something like the Saleen hood, 03/04 Cobra hood or the Steeda Q hood. With the vents in a front location, you're increasing the ability to evacuate air out after it passes the radiator. You'll also improve air flow under the car (if you really want to split hairs).

1. Is your engine overheating? See 2 for No 3 for Yes
2. Do not do anything, there is no issue.
3. Confirm its actually "under hood heat" thats causing your problem. If your IATs are high get an intake that pulls from the fender, if you are pulling from your engine bay YOU ARE DOING IT WRONG.

The Cobra R hood is infact the best looking hood for a Mustang. And id say I would personally want to be 500RWHP+ before I put that hood on my car, just saying.....

do it for looks.
when u are driving around the engine bay temps are about ambient anyways. this is why the "cai vs short ram" question also doesnt matter. a humid day will have more impact on your performance than a hood type.
