I don't see why it wouldn't.
I don't see why it wouldn't.
These are all just questions and/or suggestions as to why it might not work, I honestly have no idea beyond that.

Different timing and fuel curves? different powerband? Different redline and fuel cut out settings? 96 is obdIIa, 99 is IIb (I believe, if they follow the same year pattern as Escorts)...

I was thinking the same thing. Why not just get the ECM from where you are getting your 5.4L there are hundreds of variables that the computers are looking for in each engine type and it only takes one to make your car run like crap. Think of it this way have you ever looked for a tuner for your car if a tuner worked on different displacment engines they would list it like. EXAMPLE- this works on 96 to 98 mustang w/ 4.6L and 96 to 98 F150 w/ 5.4L. this seems like a risky way to do do your engine swap unless someone can tell you it can work I wouldn't do it. just my 2cents.

Hi! I'm new to this group. I have a 98gt which is still stock, but I did a swap on a 98 F150 from a 4.6 to a 2001 5.4 a year and a half ago. I used my stock wiring harness and ECU, but changed out the COP ignition from the 2001 to the coil packs from the 98. I also had Troyer Performance tune a SuperChip for me to the computer code FOU which was the code from my year. There are also issues of Windsor versus Romeo with the flex plate. Do some research and it can be done. You will need to make some custom brackets for the accessories, but nothing you need a machine shop for. The only other issue I had was getting the exhaust hooked up and was able to have custom tubes bent.
Good luck!!!
Good luck!!!

thank you for your help, do you have to do COP? because i already have MSD igntiion and i would really not like to swap that out. how much power did you get out of it? and how many bolts the the 5.4 flywheel's have i think mine has 6.

Go to this thread on f150online. This is the post I had going when I did my swap. The information regarding the Romeo and Windsor is in this post. I have not done a dyno since I got it all tuned, but can tell you it rocks! Stock tires were 255/70 16 and I have 285/75 16s on it now and I can light them up and get a chirp into 2nd with it. The only other mods I have are a K&N FIPK and Magnaflow exhaust.

The Romeo is a 6 bolt flex plate and the Windsor is an 8 bolt. I picked up a used flex plate for $35 at a local salvage yard.
