Default Gear oil? Whine from 35 to 50?

I have heard tons of people talk about their their preferences in oil but what will silence these things for good? I have a weird case cause they old make a slight noise when i am on the gas from 35 to 50, not accelerating or decelerating though! I had run 75w-140 synthetic with friction modifier before and they were silent but a seal broke and I rebuilt it with non synthetic 75w-140 and they started to make some noise. I don't know if it is different setup or the oil. What about this shockproof gear oil or using 75w-90? Any input helps

could have swore that my old pumpkin had a label on it that said 75w-90, but in 2004-2005? they switched from the 90 to the 140. when i had my gears done that did 75w-140, and thats whats in there now.

are you running stock gears or aftermarket gears? i would go back to what was working - if it aint broke dont fix it -- so i would try 75w-140 synthetic with the friction modifier again.

What exactly is gearbox chatter cause thats what it may be. I haven't put in the friction modifier yet. I was waiting to put in the new oil!

On a side note, alot of the synthetics are equipped with a the friction modifier already, if you are driving the car with conventional gear oil and no modifier your gonna fry out your clutch packs pretty fast and end up with a one tire fire, I'd put it in asap.

I have only driven like 75 miles on it, I wanted to make sure everything was good. I am replacing the oil this week! Could I have damaged them in that short of time. Are you saying I have to do a burnout to check? haha

Noise at those speeds sounds like the carrier bearing. Mine make a little noise at the same speed. I vote for the Redline. I have used it for many years in my Harleys with great results.

the fluid in the rear will 9 times out of 10 NOT cause the noise (as long as it is gear oil at the proper level). You said you "rebuilt it" What exactly did you do

I changed the gears, I am gonna look into the carrier bearing. I am just gonna give the thing a good spray with brake cleaner and clean them up! Yes they are setup perfectly.
