SSS Terminator Mufflers or Catback???
 

I'm thinking about buying the SSS Terminator System, but to save $$$ for now can I get away with simply buying the Terminator mufflers and still get nice sound?

My goal is to sound meaner than stock without breaking the bank. Then down the road I think I'll upgrade to the entire catback system. When I do that do I keep the mufflers or are they swapped out by the catback?

The way I think I understand it is that on the system the mufflers are basically in the pipes. Am I understanding that correctly?

Or is all this thinking just a waste of time and do I need to spend the extra $200+ because the sound is that much better???

I really think it's worth it to buy the whole system. It might cost you more in the long run to have a shop weld in the SSS mufflers to your stock cat back now, and then have them taken out later on when you purchase the rest of the system. Besides if you buy the entire cat back you can install it on your own, since there's no welding involved. It's all clamps.

It will also sound a little better if you do the entire thing, because all the exhaust will flowing through 2.5" piping vs the stock 2.25" .

Last but not least, it will look so much better as well.

I think that is an excellent suggestion. I wasn't sure what would be involved with putting the whole system on (if there was some 2.25" to 2.5" conversion that had to be done). But it sounds like it's all bolt on from the factory connections.

In all actuallity if I can install it myself then it will be close to the same price. The mufflers are around $120 plus another $100 to install. So it would only be another $150 or so to do the whole system.

I couldn't find it anywhere for less thatn $379.00 though. And I'm hoping for a paypal option. Any suggetions?

I would just spend the extra and get the catback. mrstang is right, you will pay a decent penny to have them welded into the stock piping because the stock piping isn't the same diameter as the catback piping. That and the overall tone of the catback compared to just welding in the mufflers is night and day difference. I personally would say install it yourself to save some money, but don't use the clamps if you don't have to, and just weld it in.

Hmm...I'm not a welder. I called the most reputible muffler shop and they said they would install the whole system for $150.

If I specified that I wanted it welded in I'm sure they would oblige.

But if clamping it isn't that bad of an option I could certainly manage to do all that myself. I work on a military base that has rent by the hour garage complete with full hydraulic lifts and all the tools I'd need to easily take off the old and bolt in the new.

Im gonna buy a SSS cat-back as soon as I pay off my insurance. Im just gonna install it myself with clamps and save some money. Let us know how yours turns out.

Using the clamps should work out just fine, that is how I did mine and have had no issues. I would say go with the whole system now, because if you are considering it and just get the mufflers, odds are you will regret it and end up paying more in the long run.

I appreciate the feedback. I think I agree. Besides if anything were to ever be damaged it would be easier to unclamp and replace it than to be cutting welds.

I could have afforded a cheap muffler only setup, but I'm gonna have to put some cash aside to do the whole catback. I usually get one thing done to the mustang a month, and this month I'm restoring the drivers seat. (I had them repad the armrest and it's SO comfortable now...but the seat still needs some more work.)

But at least now I know which direction I'm headed. I'll put up pics and report the good news when I have it all in there. Thanks again.
