Default My car keeps cutting off? why is this please help

I have a 2000 gt mustang and when I crank it up sometimes it only stays on long as I keep my foot on the gas pedal. Now if I take my foot off the car will completely shut off. I changed my fuel filter and that still didn't solve the problem I'm wondering what could it be my fuel pump isn't making any noises and I was told that if it was my fuel pump the car wouldn't even start. I will say it only does this sometimes but still its annoying has anyone else had this problem before
