Whining in 1st gear with 4R70?

Whining in 1st gear with 4R70?
My dads 03 GT does it, my 01 GT does it, mine has 184K miles, his has 61K miles. Taking off from a light or stop sign, etc..you get this very noticeable whine in 1st gear that seems to get louder with rpms. As soon as it shifts to 2nd, you dont hear it.
It sounds like a straight cut gear in a standard trans.
Is this normal?

is that the auto tranny? if so, my 99 auto wined real loud in first gear (i would hear it over my exhaust if I was in a parking deck)
you can tell him to flush his tranny, clean that filter in there (metal magnet), could possibly quiet it some.

Glad its not something out of the ordinary then.
I love mine, but my dads some some weird stuff sometimes.
Like it feels like it starts out in 2nd alot. If I stop at a light and turn right, and roll into the throttle it feels like it bogs for a few moments, then suddenly it feels like it slips back into 1st and pulls great. Has always done this.
