2000 GT - how much oil, brake bleeding Q, and other tune up items
Guys,
I recently purchased a 2000 Mustang GT 5spd, and had a few questions.
1) How much oil does it need? I am reading conflicting stories about earlier models (99-00) needing 4.7L, and later models (01-04) needing 5.7L - can anyone confirm for the 2000 model?
2) How to bleed the brakes on these things - do is it just a simple bleeder screw that I unbolt whiles someone is pressing the brake? Also do I start with the caliper farthest from the master cylinder and work myway to the closest one?
3) Do these cars use a cabin air filter?
4) How difficult is the fuel filter replacement?
5) Spark plugs - what is the suggested change interval (i.e. after how many miles)?
Sorry about all the questions. Complete newbie here. The car was in storage for about 4 years, and only has ~43k miles (70k KM).
Thanks

You can download an Owner's Manual here.

And forget the 5w-20 oil recommendation. There are threads in the oil sub-forums here that explain in detail why it was recommended in the first place. 5w-30 or even a 5w-40 if you drive her hard for any period of time. Unleashed beast is an oil expert and is really good about sharing his knowledge on the subject. And 6 liters of oil if you change the filter. These 2v motors love to rev so don't be shy. I have the same car as you do. Happy driving

The Normal Service recommendation is at the bottom of page 4.
Here's some good info re: 5W-30 motor oil...

Thanks all for the advice thus far. Ill be sure to interact a lot more once I get my car fully on the road. And I like CK's blog about 5w20 providing 1% more fuel economy vs 30% more engine wear - something to definitely let my family members know when changing the oil on their Hondas.
EDIT: Cliff, is it possible to get a copy of the entire factory service manual for the mustang online? I appreciate the links to the portions you provided, but some pages refer to other pages which means I should just get the whole thing. I downloaded a 5-6gb Ford ISO file, but I suspect it may be something a lot more complicated than what I need.

Quote:That is the Special Operating Conditions, "During extensive idling and/or low speed driving for long distances, as in heavy commercial use such as delivery, taxi, patrol car or livery" recommendation.
The Normal Service recommendation is at the bottom of page 4.
I would like to see anyone who does drive like the normal service recomendation states! I would still fallow the special operating conditions If I were you. jmo
