Default Polishing Aluminum on engine

Hey everyone,

I am planning on cleaning up my engine while it is partially apart. What I mean is I want to take off the Air intake, throttle body, plenium, wires, etc. and clean them up.

I have a couple questions,

1.) How do I polish the aluminum parts such as the alternator? I want to get rid of the pitting and make it more glossy (not looking for chrome here)

2.) How do I remove the Alternator?

3.) What type (if any) of polish should I use? I already have some degreaser

Thanks,
DMD

For what a pro charges take it to one. The work involved is way more then most would want to tackle. I have used a local polisher and it was way cheaper then I thought.

1.) To get rid of "all" the pit marks you'll need to start sanding with 120 grit wet-dri followed by 180 grit wet-dri sandpaper and then 360 grit wet-dri sandpaper.

3.) If the part isn't polished you're going to leave any polish you use in the the sanding marks which will make the part chalky looking with the residue left in the sanding marks.

Alright thanks, I'm going to start sanding the pitting off today then. Is getting the alternator off easy?
