Default Automatic compared to manual...

So i have an automatic 1996 gt, and i'm not here to get verbally attacked for having an auto mustang haha... But i was looking into to selling to get a manual.. But i am curious..what are the advantages and disadvantages of manual and automatic. And also are the autos really that much slower? cause ive recorded zero to 60 times of when my car was stock of alittle over 6 seconds... im just curious..thanks guys

Stock to stock a auto is bit slower, but mod the hell out of it and watch the tables turn.

It sucks getting stuck in traffic with a stick. That is my only complaint. I do think a standard is much more fun!!

OP, only you can answer the question if it's worth the swap. Me personally, i had to have a manual or not at all...that's just me though.

mrstang I agree with you but OP if you're worried about getting trashed because you have a auto stang then you are on the wrong forum..

auto's are greatif u planon building the car for regular 1/4mile (1/8th) use, standards are lot of fun for cruisin, i honestly think my 5.0litre auto is quicker than my buddies 4.6litre 5spd. we both have basic mods, and mines a convertible also. driving skill/experience goes into play with a 5spd more-so than a standard also.

Nothing wrong with an auto. I've had both in my car and they both have their perks. I very much enjoyed powershifting and sometimes miss not having a manual because of that. My auto is great and there really isn't anything I don't like about it. I've got a good sized stall and a shift kit so it's not a dog off the line and it shifts much faster than any guy or girl can with a manual.

Also, if your worried about your autos performance buy a good sized stall. It will really wake the car up.

My suggestion to you is to figure out what you want to do with your car. If you want to build it for the twisties than a manual would be good. If it's a drag car then most definitely stick with the auto.

There is a very simple answer to this. If you want fun on the street and be able to rev at ricers get a manual, if you want to win races stick with an auto.
