Default Question about Gearing. 98 GT

I just recently bought a 98 gt. Its my first mustang and also my first rwd car. Im pretty sure the rearend gearing isnt oem. My second gear only goes to about 50ish mph at 6k rpm. What gear set could this be? 4.10, 3.73? Like i said i dont know to much about rwd's. Any help is appreciated. Thank you.

You will see a difference. By far the best bang for the buck under 500 dollars!

4.10's are definitely the way to go. They able you to get off the line quicker meaning more shifting and less top end or top speed, but is definitely the best mod to make. The 3.73's give you more top speed but do not allow you to get off the line quick. I say 4.10's.

I have a 98gt as well.My second gear is about identical to yours.I'm pretty sure mine is a stock gear which I believe is a 3:08 but I am not 100% sure on that.Mine actually does 55 at around 5700 rpm.I bought my car stock except for the flowmasters and the guy I bought it off of didn't say that the gears were changed.

Do 410s give you about 40-45mph on 4th gear 2k rpm? I'm trying to see what gears I have since I bought my car used also. I can also do 45 on 5th gear doing about 1.5k

To find out for sure, you can jack up the rear of the car and count the rotations of the driveshaft with one complete turn of the rear wheel. This would require putting the jack stands on the differential assembly unit (tube, not pumpkin...though that might work OK I don't know) with one stand on each side.

How many turns of the driveshaft should i get with one full rotation of the tires if i have 4.10's?
