Intake systems

Intake systems
I currently have a C&L ram air intake on my car.
I'm thinking about buying a JLT cold air.
Thoughts?
I've heard that aftermarket intakes on our stangs are pretty much a waste of money. Is this true?

I also have the C&L CAI, but from everything I've read and heard here and on SVTP, the aftermarket intakes for our cars flow no better (or only marginally better) than the stock piece with a K&N drop in filter. They're mostly just for aesthetics.

you've heard correctly! i have a factory installed ford racing cai with my whipple h.o. s/c, it really doesn't matter

Was kind of on the fence about it anyway.
I agree that the JLT looks like crap!!
I do have a big fat FIPK K&N on it. I wonder if there is an aftermarket isolator to shield the filter from engine temps and to more directly pull air from the wheel well. I don't really want to custom fab up some sheet metal...

As far as looks go, JLT's can look pretty good if you order one new and specify the color. Otherwise, you can make them look good yourself if you feel like spending the time and money on painting it.
As far as performance, gains/losses from C&L to JLT will be practically unnoticeable. One thing to possibly consider, if you're planning to do any work to your heads and/or intake manifold, is that the JLT is one of the biggest pipes in the aftermarket world (4" I believe compared to C&L's 3", feel free to correct me on the actual specs if I'm wrong, it's been a while since I last researched it). If you're increasing intake flow, a bigger pipe would def. help to some extent.
Now, I personally find true CAI's to be a pain in the crotch. They get dirty faster (thus should be cleaned more frequently), you have an increased risk of getting them soaked with water, and they're aggravating as hell to get in and out of the fenderwell. And all this for 1-2hp gain?? No thanks..
