Exclamation Hard time shifting

I brought my GT to a tire shop in order to take out a screw that had lodged itself into one of my tires. It ran great on my way to the shop but when I got it back the same afternoon, I could hardly shift into first at a stand still and when I'm on the road shifting into second and third is clunky and feels like I'm pushing/forcing a bit past something protruding. Fourth is relatively fine but fifth is just as bad as the first couple and I can't even get it into reverse without things grinding then getting the shifter stuck in reverse.

Any ideas as to why and how I can fix this? Or does it sound like I need a new tranny...

Please say its transmission fluid. Please?

I appreciate any help. Thanks!

My Guess

Good ole T45 syncos. I would try changing the tranny fluid with some fresh ATF It may help.( about 2 qrts)

Lots of people use Royal Purple S Mesh, but I think its a waste of money.
I run Mobile 1 Syn ATF and its been flawless and smooth shifting.

GL and congrats on the Mustang and welcome to forum

As the emperor would say, "Good, good"

Thanks for the speedy reply. I'll give that a go tomorrow and hopefully that does the trick; I've got things to do this summer and replacing a tranny was not one of them.

Thanks again!

Sound like tire shop smoked your tranny while out balancing tires ! You said it was fine when you dropped it off ? Suspicious. I have a tranny for 500 that's in great shape for ya.

They might have got it hung on the lift rack and damaged something, or it might have slipped off a lift saddle, etc--it happens all the time and you can bet they will not tell you about it.

Take a good look underneath...

smokeystang: If it comes to that, I'll let you know!

uberstang1: It's just the stock set up. I haven't tweaked anything since I got it.

cliffyk: I'll take a look at it, see if anything is out of place. Gosh I hope not.

Thanks guys!

Try adjusting the stock clutch and see if it changes at all.
