I have an '02 Mustang GT, 4.6L. Just had my 5th!! alternator replaced since 11/2010! these are new alt. from NAPA, installed by certified mech. Who keeps telling me the diag. keeps coming up clean and no idea why my car keeps blowing out alternators! This is a stock GT with no aftermarket work done to the car. Anyone else experience this before can tell me what may be causing this? Any help/recommendations GREATLY Appreciated! this is REALLY getting to be a PIA. Thank You very much for your help!

napa says it all, i have had bad luck with napa alternators and have had to replace some as many as 4 times in 1 years time. i would return the alt. get my money back anf purchase one from a different retailer.

I had to replace the battery after the 2nd or 3rd Alternator; so the battery is less than a year old. I was also thinking wiring problem or short somewhere but service tech. says that diag. keeps coming back clear. i guess that's supposed to mean, "no electrical short found". They just called me back this afternoon, the 5th new alt. is installed now. I can pickup my car in the morning but still not convinced this is resolved. I may have to eat the cost as someone else recommended and just buy alt. from someone other than Napa if it happens a 6th time. Thank you all very much for your responses. -j

i had this happen to me a few years back. after the third napa alt, i just went to auto zone. havent had a problem since.
