It's designed to take a completely different stress other than putting a jack under it and lifting the car. So as long as you can put something that will span farther than the sides of the frame rail like I posted then you will be fine. Spread out the load over a bigger surface area and VOILA no more frame rail dents.
If I didn't have that plate in the picture but jacked up at the front of the car on the frame rail I would still have a huge dent like the OP has. It was just worse OP's friend lifted so far back toward the middle of the car.
Put 1lb of force on a needle on your arm and through your arm it goes....put the same 1lb load on a hammer head on your arm and you're fine.

Thanks guys, I am not gonna worry about it and maybe see if there is an easy way to get it out next time I change the oil! If not its no big deal. As for jacking I have a pinch weld attachment for my jack that I use and everything is perfect so I have no need to switch. I usually have a piece of wood that I use to lift from the frame or k member so this doesnt happen. Thanks again for all the help. Any suggestions on getting it out?
