Smells like Gas

Smells like Gas
Okay i noticed this last year at the end of the summer too. When ever it gets really hot I can smell gas inside and outside the car. Today it was 101 degrees out and all I could smell was gas. Not burning rich kinda gas but like a gas leak kind. However, I have looked the engine over several times and there are no leaks and there is never even so much as a drop of gas on the floor. It doesn't seem to be coming from the gas cap or the tank, because when you get right next to it you can't really smell it. I have a 97' GT. Does anyone know why this might be happening? I know the car runs a little rich.

Subscribed!! Something familiar is happening to my car. Doesn't matter if its hot or cold, whenever I drive the car I get a smell of gas coming from the rear of the car. I have check the fuel tank and everything around it and I can't see any gas dripping. Need to know whats going on before I catch on fire.

Same problem when I just filled my car up (2000 GT I just bought from orig owner last week). I had been filling it up to 1/2-3/4 but topped it off a few days ago and when the wind changes direction and blows from behind, I get a strong gas smell.
No leaks I can tell, just a stupid locking gas cap I want to replace with an original. As I think it might be the culprit.

I would check the gas tank really well were the filler neck goes into the tank. There is a groumet there that many times fails on the top part and may only leak when topping off the tank. Not always leaking on the floor but you may be able to see residue or stains right under it. I've changed tons of these for that problem
