1999 Cobra Interior Upgrade
 

The cup-holder placement on the 1999 cobra, and probly all manual 1999 mustangs is terrible. I can't drive in 2nd or 4th gear if I have a drink. I noticed in pictures of a 2001, that the center console moved the cup-holders. Is it possible to just swap these out if I can find one at a junk yard.

01-04 consoles are a direct swap with 99-00 consoles and vice versa.

The major difference is the cup holders.

Thanks for the quick reply.. Just wanted to verify there is still a hole for the foglights and cigarette lighter right?

The holes for the switches/cigarette lighter are on a seperate bezel around the shifter.

I believe there is still a cigarette lighter on the console itself near the storage compartment on the 01-04 consoles... but im not certain.

I recently put a tri-ax in and now I can shift into 2 and 4 w/out hitting a drink. It's still awkward but now possible.

Anyway I Haven't been in an 01+ with manual, is the different cup holders really Solve the problem?

It is definitely easier, but i wouldn't say "problem solved." You still hafta awkwardly position your elbow to avoid knocking it into the drink

Since I put in an MGW shifter in my car, that cup holder is now a lot more useful than before...however I do still have to kind of crane my forearm up a little anyway.

You guys that aren't familiar with the two different center consoles can view the differences side by side by just looking at used car listings for a 1999 or 2000 versus 2001+ and compare pictures.
