school me on "3rd gear wall"
I'm having problems shifting into 3rd gear at high rpms. Did some reading around, but really couldnt find a way to solve the problem.

Have you changed the transmission fluid, and used only 3.2 qts on the refill? This TSB explains more about this. If you have never changed it then it is overfilled, if it was changed by a dealer it may still be overfilled, if it was changed by a "quikee" lube place then it may be grossly overfilled.
BTW and FWIW, I had run RP Synchromax for 50k miles or so but found that Mobil 1 ATF performs better in my '03...

To clarify, you cannot really "check it" as the proper level is well below the filler hole (which is why "quikee" lube may have grossly overfilled it)--just drain and refill with the proper amount. Remove the filler plug first, only once in my life have I drained a tranny and then found the filler plug would not come out, but that was all it took.
As to an aftermarket shifter, most of the regulars here know my preference:

sweet!!! thanks for the fast responses. The MGW was actually the short throw i was looking at, I've read a lot of good things about them. Guess that will be the next thing I'll be getting for my car.

Your 2000 has a Tremec T45 transmission; the original specification was for Mercon ATF, a conventional oil no longer available. Mobil 1 ATF is a suitable alternative.
As to whether you "should" use it, that's your call. Any Dexron/Mercon III or better rated fluid will work...
