Default v8 swap in to v6 not running

I just helped my brother swap the enigine and drivetrain from a 97 Convertable GT into a 96 v6 body. switched all the wiring but the dash wiring. We wnt to start it up and it runs for about 5 secs and then shuts off. I think the 97 had theft but i am not for sure. it ran when we pulled it out of the 97. Anyone have any ideas.

-thanks

I'm not sure if it matters or not but which ecu did you use.I've heard that when you switch the ecu the pats system won't allow it to start and stay running.I'm not real sure about that but it does sound like it's something electrical.

Are you using the V6 key? Odds are that it's something to do with the PATS system.

its your pats system and the dash ford has to reprogram it all for you to make it run

The pats system on the 94-97 isnt programmed into the ECU, it has its own module behind the dash. If your using the v6 ignition and key you should be ok.

If it starts and runs a little bit, it's not PATS. PATS won't allow it to start at all if it's wrong.
Did you swap the ECU? How does it run for the 5 seconds? Smooth or stumbling on itself?

we change the steering column, key, ecu and instrument over from the 97 car but left the dash wiring in place. It runs alright it doesn't stumble or anything but shuts right off when you try to give throttle it shuts off. We went and tried to see if it's the fuel pump and it seems to be alright.

The secret is going to be in the harness swap then.
I've never seen anyone swap the column and related stuff.

was told that the v8 column and instrument cluster would have to be swapped. We have a person that claims they have done it before...but he can not figure out why it's not running. I also thought it was the theft system since i have seen many cars do the same thing when it was activated.

I'd swap cluster, not column.
