2nd gear grinding on 96 GT

2nd gear grinding on 96 GT

2nd gear will grind on my 96 GT but only when shifting at high rpms like around 4500+. You can get it up to 5K in 1st, let go of gas, push the clutch in all the way, shift into 2nd and without even engaging the clutch its grinding. As soon as you try to put it in 2nd it grinding. Is this a tell tale sign of a bad syncro? Its happening when not even power shifting or anything. Just thought someone could give me some answers. Than

How much are rebuild kits? Or should I just get a new tranny?

i had the same problem in my car in 3rd and it was a syncro.Thank god for a warranty

Hey. Yeah I had the exact same problem you're describing. Granted, this is with a T-45, but the same symtoms. I took it to a tranny shop and they wanted to charge me like $1500 for a rebuild. So I said screw it and just bought a T-56 from SHM.
