Default Tires for 2002 GT 4.6L

I'm driving my husband's 2002 Mustang GT to/from work (highway/city) approximately 80 miles a day. My front tires are Dunlop Direzza DZ101 245/45 R17 and only got about 23k miles on the front tires. Is that normal? Should I be looking at a diff tire? No hot rodding just home/work mode of transportation. My husband's ready to kill me cuz I went through the front tires so fast. Thanks.

I would LOVE to get 23K out of my tires.... lol. I got 8K out of my last set and NEVER spin them!

That is not a horrible number for those tires, but an alignment check, as mentioned, might be a good thing. You may not need tires for hot rodding, but hubby might!

My question, and you may not know the answer, is what, if any, power/suspension mods has he doe to it? Those are a fairly high-performance tire for cornering grip and a harder tire (read higher mileage ability) will not offer the same amount of grip on a corner. If he digs dem twisties, going to a higher mileage tire is a mistake.

No, actually they're not wearing evenly. There's shoulder wear (I think that's what someone told me) and hubby said they wearing on inside tread as well. Nitrous is in there.

I stand corrected. they're wearing evenly on the inside and outside treat. Maybe low air but shouldn't be with nitrous in there. Are those good tires for that car? Recommend any others?

Stock suspension but he babies the car. And he thinks a lot of it is because I did not rotate the tires. I'm running nitro and it gives you a softer ride, if the tire is low on air then it pushes in and you're riding on outside and inside of tire and both left & right front tires are worn the same (inside/outside). So now we know I have to monitor air pressure and rotate tires ... bottom line are the Dunlop Direzza DZ101 245/45 R17 95W okay for the car? What is normal mileage for front tires?

Not rotating the front tires to the back would actually make the fronts last LONGER, as it's the drive wheels that wear fastest. But yeah, check tire pressure once in a while. I usually check all my fluids and tire pressure every couple weeks.

The drive wheels don't last longer on my car, as it comes down to how the car is driven.

travilin.... If the tires are wearing faster on ONLY the outside/inside edges, lower pressure is the likely cause. Whether running nitrogen (nitrous... lol, I keed, I keed ) or not, the tires may be too low for the needs of the driver (car weight, etc.... ) Rotating will certainly help to even-out the wear, but pressure would seem to be the issue, in this case.

Without seeing the tires personally, I cannot give you much better an answer. 23K on a set of those tires that are "babied" is not an excessive amount. If the car is driven so carefully and not modded at all, you could go to a bit harder tire, but I think a V8 deserves better traction than a harder tire can give.

Normal mileage varies on a lot of factors... some tires you are lucky to get 10K out of, others can easily go 40-50K,,, but there are trade-offs. Generally speaking, the higher the mileage ability, the harder the tire. For a DD Mustang GT that you rarely, if ever, really get in to, a ~25K tire (IMHO) is about right, especially here in FL.
You can get tires that are a bit less expensive than those Dunlops, but if you like them, they are decent tires.

Thanks so much for all of your comments ... they were VERY helpful and they have saved me from nitely beatings...not that I didn't enjoy them. :-) PS - Okay, you know I'm a girl so you could've cut me some slack on the nitrous/nitrogen ... I knew what I meant. LOL You guys are great!!
