So i have a 1996 mustang gt, it will be hitting 140,000 miles soon..and I mean it runs like a champ, but deep down im wondering if i should start being leery. The car has just started to burn oil. Not alot, but it is buring it and when i first start it up in the morning it clicks/taps alittle bit but nothing loud. I mean by this time next year it will probally be between 146,000-150,000. So what about you guys..anyone else out there have a high mileage stang that can reassure my confidence haha
Ive seen MArk8's, Towncars, and stangs with well over 300K N/A with good care. Not saying some repairs hadnt occurred...but the engines were still running good.
The 4.6 is a really reliable motor! Obviously after 140k or so, you will probably need to do some minor preventative maintenance (gaskets, etc.), but as for anything major? As long as she was taken care of, I wouldn't worry
I have 147k on my 97. Runs like new. I have heard of these motors going over 450k. A lot of them make a little noise on start up. Some have done it since new. It's the nature of the beast.
