Default 2v heads to 4v heads swap

Instead of just porting my heads, I'm thinking of getting a set of 4v heads instead, building them and then installing them.

What does a 4v swap involve? Give me an proximate list of parts I will need. Are there any websites that document this swap?

Basically, I need the mechanical stuff, I'll be using a custom ECU so that electronics is no problem.

I remember this question a while back. Some people say it's a very, very involved swap and it'd probably be cheaper to get a PnP on your 2v heads.

Its too expensive. You may as well buy a whole 4V engine and install it. You would come out ahead.

Well yea, I heard that before. But remember I use custom ECU and have access to some parts. So lay it out for me, what's involved?

New heads complete with valves and cams, new valve covers, new timing chains, new timing chain cover, ner upper and lower intake, all new hardware, new wiring harnesses, new ecu, and im sure a lot more that I missed such as a different alt. Didnt the 4V engines have a reverse flow radiator system that the GT didnt have? Im not sure... but you will need a lot.

Just found a site, these people appear to crack these sort of swaps as not too difficult. http://www.fastestmodulars.com/

I'll see what's involved, if it's something I could handle in a weekend I'll sure will do it.

It isnt physically hard, but you are going to pay out the ying yang and it will probably take forever to get everything together. If you want to attempt it, then by all means do it. Dont let me hold a goal of yours back. Im just letting you know from my experience of tearing a 2V down, and just a tear down is real time comsuming.

Yes everything JD said. And all new radiator hoses 5 if I remember right the coolant crossover tube new cobra thermostat housing that is located off the engine. Seems like you would have to run the Cobra intake also because I don't know if the 2V intake will work on the 4V heads. I agree With JD just get the hole Cobra Motor out of a salvage yard mu guess buying all these parts seperatly wuld cost about the same. I paid $3700 for mine with 50,000 miles you could probably find them cheaper I got this one because it was at a Local yard.

Call me crazy but I think I could do this swap in $1,000 budget. Not counting the ECU. I'll see, I'll try doing it on paper first, if it's too expensive I'll wait, do something else.

My ultimate goal would have been a 5.4L aluminum block with steel cylinder jacket inserts, forget aluminum pistons, then either high compression or lower compression for the blower. 4v of course.

I would just go buy a DOHC 5.4 and drop in there with a big KB or turbo to make it go. LOL
