Default New Guy: ABS light on

Hey Guys, I have 2002GT, actually my son's car. He is deployed with the Marine Corps in the Mid-east, and Daddy is fixing all the broken stuff. The ABS light is on and the Traction Control button will not work...They are connected somehow I am sure since they both have wheel control duties... scanner at Auto
Zone does not point out ABS problems...Any Suggestions...

Does the ABS or Traction Control work at all?

From what I can gather through searching on this, they both run off of some sort of speed sensor attached to the hub (or that area) behind the disk brakes. Supposedly you can try and clean the sensor that reads the sensor ring, which looks like a gear behind the brakes. If you do a search on this topic you would find that many people clean these with electrical cleaner to some success.

This seems like a better option to try than risking your life seeing if it actually works...LOL, sorry for that bad suggestion earlier (I'm a bit of a daredevil with that sort of thing )

Thanks for the tip, I will investigate your suggestion in the Morn...I am also a daredevil when I am in my own car or truck, which are a 92 Cutlass Convertible, with the FE-3 Package and a 85 Chevy Pick-up with EXT CAB (very rare), and a Jasper Motors 460\375
big block....let you know later my result, Thanks Guy

OK GUYS, PULLED EACH WHEEL AND REMOVED THE SENSOR, THEY WERE REALLY DIRTY AND CLEANED THEM OFF...DISCONNECTED THE NEG BATTERY POST FOR 10 MINUTES AND THEN RESTARTED.WELL THE TRACTION CONTROL LIGHT WAS OUT, AND WOULD NOT COME BACK ON WHEN PUSHED, BUT THE ABS LIGHT WAS STILL ON, I THINK THE TRACK CONTROL IS REALLY OFF DUE TO SOME WHEEL SPIN UNDER ACCELERATION, BUT THE REAR TIRES ARE ALSO VERY WORN, LIKE WARNING STRIP WORN !! i CANNOT TELL ABOUT THE ABS...IF I HOLD THE BRAKE PEDAL DOWN HARD WILL IT PULSE BACK AT MY FOOT WHILE STANDING STILL ????

I'm sorry to say but they are both a lost cause. My Traction control button went out about 6 month before the ABS light went on... that was like 5 years ago!!!
I've cleaned all the sensors with no luck. This is a common problem. The reason why no one on here was able to help me with the same problem is because no one has spent the near $1,000 to replace the ABS system. If you do figure anything out please let us know, but just a heads up.... I learned to live with it.
